Piano Launchpad
This group class for 7-8 year olds, and 9-10 year olds follows a successful syllabus which is used in numerous countries, including the UK & Ireland. It is designed to be a first introduction to music which is positive, creative and exploratory. The classes last for 1 school year, and will run in groups of approximately 4 students.
The classes focus on piano playing, and are a great preparation for more traditional piano lessons, but will also be beneficial for children who will go on to study other instruments too as they will be exploring music theory. There is no requirement to practice at home, but it's common that students on this course will want to work on their new skills outside of the classes.
Starting with group piano lessons, without the practice expectation will give your child a chance to try out the instrument in a low-pressure social environment. It also means you don’t have to purchase a piano and commit to supporting practice at home until you're sure your child wants to continue learning long-term.
Each lesson incorporates a number of musical learning points including:
Ear training (inc singing, exploration of pitch, finding the beat, understanding music that they are listening to), rhythm work, learning a new piece of music at the piano, learning music theory concepts, learning about basic improvisation on the piano, and reviewing piano pieces which we have worked on in a previous lesson to embed understanding.
At the end of the year of classes, the aim is that students will:
