Welcome to Upbeat Piano School
I'm excited to offer individual piano lessons, lessons in pairs, and also in small groups.
I specialise in teaching beginner students. I offer lessons for students from age 4 in small groups, and from age 6 in individual or partner lessons up to and including adults. I know how important it is when you start your piano journey to get all the basics right. These are examples of some of the things we learn about in the early years of study:
- right piano posture and healthy technique, rhythm & pitch, keyboard geography, reading notation, simple improvisation, how to practice effectively, sight-reading, ear training, producing a beautiful tone, articulation, scales & chords, music theory...and more.

When teaching I get creative! I make learning the piano enjoyable and make a big effort to get to know what my students like and tailor repertoire and my style of presentation of concepts to their individual taste. I love to see my students developing the same love of piano I have! I like the Piano Safari and Piano Adventures method series, for their appealing choices of repertoire pieces, also designed to embed good technique. We have great fun working on many aspects of musicianship and pianism whilst learning rote pieces, and I have loads of music games and activities I can draw upon, especially as I am part of the 'Vibrant Music Teaching' community.
